If you are in the UK, and have access to the internet, there's often nothing to stop you watching whatever you would like to see. Here's a favourite website I often use ...
But if you are overseas, you may be missing what is happening back home. You may be part of the way through a serialised TV production, or want to watch a sports event which is only available on UK TV.
There are ways around this, and while they may not always be successful, there is no harm in trying.
We can directly stream UK news via our website. But for more dedicated viewing, you will have to use a 'proxy server' to watch UK TV. This simply means routing your internet connection via an internet server in the UK to make it appear you are in the UK. The same applies to any other country, and if you so wish, can watch other foreign TV channels that are available over the internet. You simply (again) pick a server to route through in the country where your desired tv channel is.
Below, you will find a list of websites that can help you achieve this objective. Some are free, some will be free but with advertising, some are paid-for. It's a good idea to try them out before you travel overseas to see which proxy server is best for your needs. Then if you go for a subscriber proxy server, you will know your money is well-spent.
OK. We'll start with a new-discovered website that will help you identify the fastest proxy servers (also known as Virtual Private Networks, or 'VPN's).
The best reason for using the fastest VPN you can find is that when you are watching your chosen TV programme, you wnat the least risk of 'buffering'. In other words, if you have a slow connection, then you will find your video output is going to temporarily (and repeatedly) freeze because your connection is not fast enough to keep up with what is being transmitted.there is much less risk of buffering if you opt for the fastest VPN you can locate.STEP 1. STEP 2. From the menus avaiable, choose a location, service, or a combination of both. The map presented to you can be enlarged, so that you can focus exactly on which country you chose to route through.
STEP 3. Log onto that VPN's website and chose the criteria that fits your needs. For example, if you are in Spain and want to watch a UK TV broadcast, then chose a VPN in the UK. It will then appear that the computer you are using to connect to the internet will appear to be in the UK. This will (often) overcome any restrictions on watching programmes that are restricted for viwing in the UK.
STEP 4. A WORD OF WARNING! There are 'regulations' concerning these types of connection. Some TV companies also have software that can identify when a VPN is being used and will still block your access. So, either you have to experiment with different VPNs to try and overcome this, or just accept it is not your day and you are unlikely to watch your chosen TV programme. The upshot is that you do what you choose to do, but only at the risk of being blocked or disconnected.
STEP 5. If you are blocked, then consider locating a TV that receives many different types of TV channel (cable, satellite, etc.). You may find that one of the channels on these TVs carries a number of UK TV programmes. For example, and somewhat bizarrely, I was able to watch a full recording of a game of football featuring my home team (Wolves FC) in the Philippines! Yet I could not watch this in the UK without a paid subscription!
Also check out bars and clubs overseas. Some will have subscriptions to ceretain channels and you can watch your favourite programmes from the UK. Again, for example, there is a bar in Benalmadena in Spain which shows (at least some) live Wolves FC games!
